Cisco's IoT, Deveron UAS, ARIMA, & NYC.

Cisco's IoT

Earlier this year, Cisco augmented their IoT capacities by acquiring Jasper Technologies for $1.4B (Opps! We missed it!). Jasper was a known cloud provider for the IoT or Machine to Machine (M2M) space. For more details on this deal, look here.

Cisco paid top dollars for a solid product (Jasper Control Center Platform) and an impressive list of clients across numerous verticals. We consider this acquisition monumental for Cisco's ability to shape the future of IoT.

Deveron UAS

Of late, there has been lots of talk about the commercial usage of drones. Deveron UAS has interesting value proposition; Drones as a means to manage yield for farmers.

We recommend their blog 500 feet - it's very good.

ARIMA stands for Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average but what you really need to know is that it is a way to forecast a time series with the possibility of taking into account seasonality within the data. For an introduction to ARIMA using R, click here.

Also worth noting is the "auto.arima" (in R) function which allows you to select the optimal model terms much like the "step" functions for logistic and linear regression. However, the auto.arima function does not account for seasonality when selecting the terms of the model.

An alternate way to generate ARIMA's best model parameter can be found here.

We are stationed out of NYC for the coming year. In that spirit, we thought we'd send you a little humor from the New Yorker's Cartoon Lounge with Bob Mankoff.

"I know where I'm going and I know the truth, and I don't have to be what you want me to be. I'm free to be what I want." -Muhammad Ali

Enjoy the rest of the summer.
